14. I'M DEAD, JIM

I was running Romulan ale
Across the Neutral Zone
Picked up a hitcher around DS4
So I wouldn’t warp the years alone

He was as thin as a skeleton
And his uniform was torn to shreds
I said, “Buddy are you okay?”
And this is what he said
He said, “No”
He said, “No. I’m dead Jim”

I told him he was mistaken
And my name wasn’t Jim
He told me he’d been a doctor
Back in the federation way back when

And then I noticed something was wrong
‘Cause his presence sort of filled me with dread
Then he repeated his words to me
And this is what he said
He said, “No”
He said, “No. I’m dead Jim”

And then he started to babble
About bones and things
He pulled out a hypo spray
And overdosed on Cordrazine

He called me a green-blooded freak
And then he really started acting bizarre
By then I wanted him out of my rig
I said, “Buddy are ya goin’ far?”
He said, “No”
He said, “No. I’m dead Jim”

I landed on a planet
I couldn’t take anymore
I walked around to his side of the rig
I made a fist and opened up his door

But when I looked inside he was gone
It should have come to me as no surprise
‘Cause I realized my passenger was
The ghost doctor of the early Enterprise
He said, “No”
He said, “No. I’m dead Jim”

And as I got back in my cab
I heard him say one last thing
“Tell Nimoy, I’ll see him real soon"
